Honed Concrete Gold Coast
Macqueensland Concreting specialise in Honed and polished concrete, giving our clients quality finishes. We service all Gold Coast and Brisbane regions.
Benefits of Using Honed Concrete
- Long Lasting
- High Anti-slip resistance
- Looks Incredible
- Maintains Colour
Honed concrete is usually done for outdoor areas such as patios, driveways, pathways, pool surrounds or in a commercial setting like a building foyer or workshops The final finish is a matte to semi gloss finish rather than a gloss finish like polished concrete Honed concrete is also slip resistant which is why it is perfect for outdoor and work areas.
Our customers love the idea of having matching flooring from the inside of their home or building and it flowing seamlessly to the outdoor areas.
Honed concrete can also be done for indoor wet areas like bathrooms and laundries and it will blend in with polished concrete floors that are in other areas of the house or building.
It is a great and modern alternative to tiles or pavers and of course it can be custom coloured to suit you. It is easy to keep clean and is.
We can add colour pigments to the concrete and the aggregate that you choose will also bring the colour elements that you desire. Quartz and igneous rocks eg granite have a great polished finish and they are super hard wearing.
After the concrete has been poured and allowed to set
The surface of the concrete is ground down with a grinder and it is a relatively dustless process. We grind down till the levels of exposed aggregates (stones, pebbles or glass) are at the level you desire.
The level of the grinding required does come into the final cost.
A sealer is then applied over the top
There are 2 types of sealer
Penetrative sealers are the more popular choice. They are extremely UV stable and do not yellow. They offer an excellent slip rating and they can intensify the colour of the exposed stones and pebbles in the concrete
Surface coatings provide excellent resistance to staining so they are perfect in a workshop situation and still look great! Non-slip granules can be added into the surface coating to achieve acceptable slip ratings

Forms of concrete polishing
- A steel or machine trowel finish – provides a ‘smooth’, slightly varied coloured concrete and is often sealed with a satin or high gloss sealer.
- A ground or honed finish – involves removing the surface layer to reveal the sand/cement matrix and aggregate in a ground or honed finish. With this type of polished concrete, the colour of the sand and aggregates will have as much bearing on the final colour as the pigment used.
